A wonderful Georgian townhouse, listed Grade II and with a south facing garden.
Sitting room, dining room, study, kitchen, utility room, cloakroom, five bedrooms, three bath/shower rooms, south facing garden.
This is a wonderful, period house and it is rare to find architecture of this style in Salisbury. Built around 1820 and Grade II listed, it is an elegant town house of which very little can be seen from De Vaux Place as the original ?front? faces due south with the main rooms facing the same way and overlooking the garden. For a city centre property the outlook is remarkable and in any direction it is predominately of trees, greenery or other period architecture.
The house is arranged over four floors although it is perfectly possible to live on just two; the ground floor being reception rooms and working space while the first floor is currently arranged as two double bedrooms and a bath/shower room. The first floor bedroom that faces south and spans the width of the house could easily be used as an elegant drawing room. Many of the rooms are well proportioned, have extremely good ceiling heights and throughout the whole house there are wonderful, period details such as fireplaces, cornicing and sash windows.
The name De Vaux is unusual, it originates from France where the Valli Scholare?s were a community of Divinity professors and students who had withdrawn from Paris. De Vaux College, possibly the earliest university college in England, was founded in 1262 by Bishop Giles of Bridport as a home for 20 poor students. The college was dissolved in 1542.
De Vaux Place is very much in the centre of the city and is an easy level walk to the excellent shopping, educational and leisure facilities available in Salisbury. There is a twice weekly market and an excellent theatre. Salisbury also has a mainline railway station with trains to London Waterloo; journey time about 90 minutes.
