Grade II Listed, Georgian Styled homes are few and far between and particularly rare in the surrounding areas of Widley, Waterlooville. An original 18th century built cottage, this detached and extended house is colossal in size covering over 4300 square foot in dimensions. This property truly is a one-of-a-kind home, offering character features such as tall ceilings, picture rails and feature coving to mention just a few. The current owner has put an inviting personal touch to the property but still kept the original features that make this property so unique.

The property itself is situated in the ideal location, offering easy access to local amenities and transport links. The popular Portsdown Hill, offers stunning views across Portsmouth City and is situated close by and is a popular walk for local residents, not to mention Purbrook Heath, which offers excellent sporting facilities including a local bowls club.

This exceptional residence is impressive from the moment you enter the enormous driveway, which offers its own carport, garage and ample space for multiple cars. Situated on approximately ¼ acre of land, the plot itself is striking and quite remarkable.

Once you enter the property through the original Georgian front door, you cannot fail to be captivated as you are greeted by a large entrance, offering a spacious hallway and stairs complemented by sophisticated, period features. As you continue through the property, you become engaged with some of the features; the first reception room, which was part of the original build is currently used as an entertaining space with bar and pool table, the original wooden beams and low ceilings are typical of an 18th century cottage. To the east wing of the property lies two large reception rooms, with Georgian style stature, vast in size and retaining the original coving and feature fireplaces.

The ground floor also consists of a further reception room, currently used as the main lounge. This gives access to the kitchen and modern conservatory, which was added by the current owners, the room also benefits from offering access to the garden. The lounge itself is bright and airy due to the huge windows and doors to the rear aspect. The kitchen is contemporary in design and offers ample units with plenty of space for appliances, currently housing a large range cooker, double fridge/freezer and its own access leading to the exterior. Further accommodation on the ground floor comprises of an office space, utility room and a downstairs W.C.

This remarkable property continues to surprise as you advance up to the first floor. The layout upstairs offers four double bedrooms, with the main two rooms extra large in proportion to your standard room size. A family bathroom compliments the upstairs space with a sunken bath and rainfall shower head.

The master suite offers a wealth a space and is situated on the west wing of the property. The room itself is extremely charismatic. As you enter the room you venture down some stairs and you cannot fail to be amazed, offering an open plan layout containing original features and still benefitting from a modern en-suite shower, separate bathroom, and a walk in wardrobe. Stairs lead up to a further room, currently being used as a gymnasium and above the master suite also offers a quirky storage space which could be perfectly used as a further study.

To the rear of the property lies a large wrap around garden benefitting from side access, the garden is laid to lawn with shrubbery areas and has multiple access points to the property. The property itself is set back from the entrance and as soon as you arrive at the property, you struggle to not become absorbed and charmed by the sheer presence of this stunning home. A swift viewing is highly recommended to ensure you can truly appreciate all this property has to offer.

Historic property information Originally constructed as a stand alone small oak framed cottage in circa 18th century, the property was later extended to form two attached cottages and the current property still retains the original door to the rear cottage. The cottages were used to house workers for Purbrook Park House and the lord of the manor. Purbrook Park House was then re-built in 1837 (now known as Purbrook Park College) and the Lord of the Manor fell out with the diocese of Portsmouth and decided to build his own church in 1858 but didn't have a suitable residence for his new rector. He therefore enlarged and extended the cottages to form one large Georgian Style House. A lot of those original features remain and the east extension is in proportion to a typical Georgian property. Towards the end of the 18th Century a further two story extension was added to the rear of the property providing the existing high vaulted reception toom overlooking the rear garden, as well as extra large bedroom.

The Kitchen extension was build circa 1930 to provide laundry/ancillary space. The house was then used as a single dwelling before being purchased by the nhs where it was then used as an eleven bed rehabilitation unit until purchased by the current owners in 2004. The building is Grade II Listed and was first listed in January 1986. View more View less
